Graduation Ceremony July 2012

Vidya Academy of Science and technology organized a graduation ceremony for the first time  in  its  history  on  07,  July  2012  at  College  Auditorium.  On  this  occasion,  course completion  certificates  were  awarded  to  426  students  of  various  B.Tech  programmes. Dr. Tessy Thomas, (Scientist DRDO and Director of Agni‐5 Missile Project of India) was the  guest  of  honour  on  the  occasion.  The  certificates  were  distributed  by  Dr.  V.S Ajaikumar  (Vice  Chairman  VICT).  The  ceremony  held  in  the  college  auditorium commenced with a ritualistic academic procession. Dr Sudha Balagopalan welcomed the participants.

Graduation ceremony 2012 was organized to bid farewell to the Engineering students of Vidya Academy of Science & Technology, Thalakkottukara, Thrissur who have completed their course of study during 2008-12. Scientist Dr. Tessy Thomas, Project Director, Agni Missile project, DRDO, Hyderabad was the Guest of Honour during the occation.

The First woman scientist to head a missile project in India and the key scientist for Agni-V missile in Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) Hyderabad. Scientist Dr. Tessy Thomas is famous as 'MISSILE WOMAN' and 'AGNIPUTRI' of India. She joined DRDO in the year 1985 after completion of her B. Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Govt. Engineering college, Thrissur. Then she had done M. Tech in Guided Missile from Institute of Armament Technology, Pune.

Since 1988 Scientist Tessy Thomas involved in Missile Development as a staff member of DRDO Hyderabad and took the responsibility of designing of the complex guidance system of Missile. During her professional life she has worked with the former Indian President Dr. Abdul Kalam. Scientist Tessy Thomas was the Associate Project Director of Agni-III missile which is the 3000 KM ranged missile and successfully launched in May 2008. She was the Project Director for both Agni-IV missile that was successfully launched in 2011 and Agni-V missile which is the 5000 KM ranged missile that was successfully launched on 19th April 2012.
